Scope

I think we should not include everybody - bhakti poets, mystics, saints and sages - under the category of philosophers. Broadly we should include only those people who have genuinely propounded philosophical theories, have made theoretical contributions in philosophical "subfields such as aesthetics, epistemology, ontology, ethics, logic, and metaphysics". I know it is very difficult to establish clearcut division between opinions and philosophies, but I think if we stress on the elaborate "theoretical" content of the latter as the criterion for categorising someone under the category of philosopher, we can save the list from being totally haphazard and redundant.Kumarilabhatta 01:28, 5 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
